Background and Objectives : Nasal bone is the most common fracture site in maxillofacial trauma. With the resultant external and functional deformity of the nose, an early and extensive knowledge of the degree and pattern of the fracture is required for correct reduction.
Materials and Methods: We performed 3-dimensional CT in nasal bone fracture patients who have showed indefinite fracture line on plain X-ray and compared the results.
Results: In 11 cases of indefinite fracture on plain X-ray and physical examination, 3-dimensional CT images showed an definite fracture line. In 5 cases of suspected simple fracture on plain X-ray, they were revealed as complex fractures and septal bone fractures. Closed reduction was done in 6 cases of displaced fractures and septoplasty was done consecutively in 2 cases of septal fractures.
Conslusions: 3-dimensional CT is recommended in suspected cases on plain X-ray and physical examination.
